Miss KELNHOFER Becomes Bride of Carmen ZAIS; Ceremony Performed at St. Kilian's Church.

After June 12 Mr. and Mrs. Carmen E. ZAIS, whose wedding took place at St. Kilian's Catholic Church at Blenker, June 6, will be at home to friends on the groom's farm on route 5 near Marshfield. The Rev. L.C. Stieber officiated at the 3 o'clock Nuptial High Mass read before the flower-decked church altar.

The bride, given in marriage by her eldest brother, HILARY KELNHOLFER, wore a white chiffon gown made with a Chantilly lace bodice, distinguished with a sweetheart neckline and long puffed sleeves coming to points over the wrists. Lace insertions in the pleated skirt extended to the end of the five-yard-long train. Her veil of illusion, finished with a hand-rolled edge, fell from a sweetheart bonnet trimmed with pearlized orange blossoms and she carried a crystal rosary and wore a pink-gold wrist watch, a gift of the groom. Her shower bouquet of roses and carnations was tied with a wide satin bow.

Miss ELMA ZAIS, Marshfield, only sister of the groom as maid of honor, walked down the church aisle dressed in a pink marquisette over satin frock, styled with a snug bodice and full gathered skirt. Pleating trimmed the sweetheart neckline and blue flowers cascaded down the skirt from the waistline. A sweetheart bonnet made with a pleated brim and trimmed with pink velvet bows completed her costume.

Bridesmaid was Miss BERNADINE BRUENING, Marshfield, attired in a pale blue marquisette frock and bonnet styled like that of the maid of honor. Wrist corsages of tea roses and babies breath completed their costumes.

ROMAN and RAYMOND KELNHOFER, brothers of the bride, attended the groom.

MARY ANN DEJA, West Allis, a niece of the bride, carrying a basket of pink gladioli and white bachelor buttons was flower girl. Her dress was fashioned of pink marquisette over satin and extended to the floor. A matching sweetheart bonnet trimmed with blue velvet bows like those on the frock, tied under her chin with a big blue bow.

Breakfast for the bridal party, and later dinner and supper for 275 guests were served at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. FRANCES KELNHOFER, Milladore, route 2. A dance was held that evening at Lang's Ballroom at Sherry, after which the couple departed on a wedding trip throughout the State.

The bride, the former Miss VALERIA ROSE FRANCES KELNHOFER, was graduated from St. Kilian's Parochial School and the Auburndale High School in 1940. Mr. ZAIS, the son of Mr. and Mrs. CARL ZAIS, Marshfield, rte 5, was graduated from the Granton High School with the class of 1940 and attended the agricultural course offered at the University of Wisconsin.

Carmen E. Zais, 73, of 1918 Laurel St., Apt. 103, died at 8:30 p.m. May 18, 1996, at St. Joseph's Hospital Hospice Care Unit. He was admitted there earlier in the day.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church. The Rev. Charles D. Stoetzel, pastor, will officiate. Helen Brinkman will be the organist for St. John's Church Funeral Choir.
Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael, Lynn and Jason Zais; Ryan Kolbeck, Mike Wunrow and Earl Gallatin.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at Rembs/Kundinger Chapel and again until service time on Wednesday. A St. John's Parish Prayer Service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
He was born Sept. 28, 1922, in the town of Lynn in Clark County to Carl and Emma (Retzlaff) Zais.

Mr. Zais graduated from Granton High School in 1940, and prior to marriage farmed with his parents in the Blenker-Miladore area.

He married Valeria R. Kelnhofer on June 6, 1944, at St Kilian's Catholic Church in Blenker. Following their marriage the couple moved to Kenosha where they farmed from 1944 to 1952. They then moved to the town of Marshfield and farmed there until 1970.

The couple sold the farm and moved to the city of Marshfield where he was employed by the Marshfield Canning Co. until his retirement in 1984.

He was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in June 1994.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Valeria; sons Jerrold (Claudia) Zais of Denville, N.J. and Ronald (Paulette) Zais of Chicago; and daughters, Carmela (Charles) Kolbeck and Diane (Marty) Swoboda, both of Marshfield. He is further survived by nine grandchildren, Lynn, Michael and Jason Zais, Danelle and Nicholas Zais, Ryan Kolbeck and Sheila (Kenneth) Leitheuser, Abigail and Samuel Swoboda and two great-grandchildren, Distin and Kenneth Leitheuser II; and his sister, Emma Minkowski of Bloomer.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
